Readers Respond: Do You Have iPhone Insurance?

Responses: 16

By , About.com Guide

Some people buy insurance for their cell phones. Some think those folks are wise; others think they’re suckers for spending money that they’ll never get back or need. There’s no official iPhone insurance, but third-party companies offer it.

Which camp do you fall in? Are you a prudent iPhone insurance buyer or is cell phone insurance a scam that no one needs?

To Whitney

If you simply can't afford insurance on top of that an iPhone then I would suggest a cheaper phone or second hand iPhone... I have insurance on my iPhone and I know how you feel when your phone is wrecked and they won't cover you and it's because you don't have INSURANCE. I'm guessing you're in the U.S. Well I'm in New Zealand and iPhones are almost twice as expensive. You guys have it lucky...

State Farm

Have had my iphone 3gs insured with State Farm upgraded to Iphone 4 today. Went to replace the 3gs with the Iphone for and was told that State Farm no longer insures Iphones and would not put the new phone on the existing policy. I went with the Insure apple iphone.

insure apple iphone

The best insurance available right now for the iphone is insure apple iphone. they are the least expensive and offer the most coverage, more than any other company.

iphone insurance

The first poster mentioned insure apple iphone. After reading that I did some research thinking it was too good to be true for $5.99, but after speaking with then and digging into their terms of service (I'm an attorney) they really are a good provider. I insured all 4 of our iphone 4's with them. Definitely worth checking them out if you are in the market for iPhone insurance.

Best iPhone Insurance I Found...

After many long hours shopping for the best iPhone insurance I could find, and afford, I decided to go with Insure Apple iPhone. They seem to offer the most coverage for the least amount, including loss and theft. I pay $5.99 per month and only $50 repair deductibles. The lost or stolen deductible for the iPhone 4 is $299 which is higher than Asurion, but they do not have an occurrence limit, where the other companies only replace 1 iPhone per year. What happens if I lose it twice? If you are shopping definitely check them out.

Ensquared iPhone Insurance

I believe Ensquared has the only iPhone insurance in the USA covering loss, theft and accidental damage. [I believe this is true thanks to the inclusion of loss coverage. As far as I can tell, most other iPhone insurance companies cover theft and damage - Sam, iPod Guide]

GoTronics insurance for Iphone

looks to me like the best deal is GoTronics-$20 for 2 yrs-if you need a repair $55 minus the 20; solen-a police report & 150-20-they say they have Better Business references.

iPhone Insurance

The best iPhone insurance I have found that we use for our company is from InsureAppleiPhone.com. We have tried squaretrade but have been dropped after a claim or two. This company charges only $5.99 per month and even covers lost iphones. My recommendation. Hope this helps.

State Farm - bad idea

To the above person who suggested getting State farm, I think it's a bad idea. If you ever have to file a claim, you are affecting your entire insurance record. It could cause your homeowner's insurance to go up, and that's something that is so not worth it for a phone. I would stick to SquareTrade because they have a really good reputation for fixing stuff quickly and honestly. My friend cracked her iPhone screen when it fell out of her car, she sent it in to them and had it back two days after she sent it in for repair!

To Whitney who got her phone stolen-

What are you, an 18 year old who doesn't know anything? What did you expect, that they would magically give you a new phone? Would your experience been different with any other phone? NO! Yes you can buy insurance for other phones and yes Apple or At&t need to make it available for the iPhone through them, but they're not and we're LUCKY that a third party company has stepped up. Our iPhone may have only cost us 100 bucks w/ a 2 yr contract, but we know that it costs 3x that much w/o a contract. How many times have you dropped a phone in it's life? These are little computers, dropping them will break it, duh. Dropping, water damage, theft... If you can't afford $300-600 for a new one, you NEED insurance.

Check your credit card statement

Thanks. My i Phone was stolen and cost $400 to replace. After reading your page, i checked and called my credit card company. I WAS COVERED ! It was 90 cays on the dot. Thanks

I phone gets stolen no one protects you!

I just had the worse experience with both at&t and apple. My phone was stolen and no one covers that. then you are stuck with an agreement and your only option is to pay full price for another phone, $599!At&t can't do anything because i phone is an apple product. Apple doesn't care about their customers. to them you are just one small person and to me they have lost all of my business for a lifetime! Appl was not willing to help at all and pretty much said too bad.

iPhone Insurance

I think it depends on how much the insurance costs - how long you think you'll keep the phone before you upgrade.
—jehumphries40

State farm offers it in some areas

Cost me 36/year for $600/coverage 0 deductable...this part added to make it to the 50 character minimum
