From the article: Using iTunes Genius to Discover New Music
The iTunes Genius feature promises to understand the songs you like in your iTunes library and then suggest new music at the iTunes Store that you're going to love. But how good is it at understanding the music you like and helping you find new favorites? How genius is the iTunes Genius at recommending new songs? Tell Us What You Think
Nice Idea, but Epic Fail
- I think that Genius is a great idea, but didn't do its job. At first, the idea to be able to turn my variety of music into different playlists with just a click made me ecstatic. Of course, low-and-behold, EVERY song I clicked was "unable to create a Genius playlist." Not only was this disappointing, but it is downright nerve-wracking. In my opinion, iTunes needs to re-do its program. For example, instead of having to click a single song, Genius should scan your entire music library and make playlists for it. The vice-versa should also apply. If you want a playlist around ONE song, then it should make just ONE playlist. Genius was a good idea, but I think it needs some fine-tuning.

Not working
- Every time I try to turn on genius, I go through the process of setting it up, but when it goes to adding them it force closes iTunes. It's annoying: I love genius but I can't seem to enjoy it.

Meh
- I guess this feature would work for others, but I enjoy techno, the majority of which iTunes has no idea about. Also the playlists it made for me were essentially my entire iPod xD.

Mix of songs
- Well, I do understand someone else's views on the mixing of Christmas songs with others, but for me I actually enjoy the mix. Gospel and Christmas are all year round for me. I am religious, but not overly so. I do not have as large a collection as many others because I am also not an artist person, but a song person, so if I do not like the song it will not be in my collection, therefore all my music is rated five or four stars. I did tell you a little bit about me, didn't I? I am funny too.

Genius needs fine tuning
- Genius does not see difference between seasonal (holiday or Christmas) music. It is disconcerting to hear Silent Night in July after Enya's Orinoco Flow. If I could be so bold, I'd like a threeway for this group, one for all, one religious, one not religious, and then able to exclude from the non-seasonal .

Love Genius
- I like Genius. I enjoy hearing songs in random order. All my songs are to my taste as I am a passionate sentimentalist. Just play my songs Genius.

Could be simpler
- Instead of genius, how about a way to see all rated songs at once on the iphone? It would be great to see 5-star (and hit shuffle) or four star songs, like you can on itunes...?

Thank you
- Great, thanks. This is short and sweet and to the point.

I think "Genius" is genius!
- I have 27G of music on my iPod which I found to be overwhelming when it came time to creating playlists. When I found out about the Genius button, I tried it and was AMAZED at how much fun it was! Now I have about 25 playlists, and love them. My only complaint is that Genius occasionally throws in a Christmas song on a non-holiday playlist. I have to remember to go back and delete those songs because I just get annoyed when I'm in the shower listening to my music and a Christmas song comes up in April! Otherwise, I think Genius is truly genius; for me, it's like all my music is new again, and I keep finding music in my own collection that I didn't know or forgot I had.

So-So
- Sometimes I think it's great, but all too often, I get a message saying it's not working. It then recommends songs from my iTunes library--and I know I like those. After all, I put them there.
