My husband loves gadgets, and when he brought the iPad home, I rolled my eyes. Then he showed me Netflix, and I found "Gentleman Prefer Blondes" and watched it in my lap. Wow! Then the next week I went to visit my (aging) mother in Wyoming. Her navigation skills aren't what they used to be -- iPad to the rescue, honing in on where we were vs. where we should be. I took my mom to Denver and while I was there, I discovered the app, Wikihood, which listed all the monuments, historical sites and places of interest near the hotel -- I could figure out how to navigate to them, and click through to the websites to get times they were open and costs of admission. When my 2 and 4 year old grand-nieces came to visit, I downloaded a bunch of free apps for the kids. It was astonishing how quickly even the 2 year old mastered the interface. It's so intuitive.
I work online, and I spend long days in my computer chair. The last thing I want to do in the evening is go back and sit in front of my computer again. But the iPad is different. I can take it into the living room and sit in a comfortable chair near the fireplace and shop, read the news, follow my favorite blogs, play computer games etc etc. The iPad has made being online fun again. Can you tell I am in love?
