When you need iPhone or iPod help, going right to the experts is best. And the Genius Bar at each retail Apple Store is where you’ll find them. To make the process of getting support easier, you can make an appointment at your nearest store.
To make a Genius Bar appointment online (which is generally the most efficient way to do it, unless you’re already an Apple Store; in that case you can make a reservation in person), go to http://www.apple.com/retail/geniusbar.
In the Genius Bar Reservations pull-down menu at the right, select your state and the Apple Store in your state where you want the appointment.
Select the product you’re having the problem with (iPod or iPhone, in this case, though Mac is an option, too). Before the site lets you continue, it will ask you to try some common troubleshooting measures, including:
- Update software – iPod software how-to | iPhone software how-to
- Restart the iPod or iPhone
- Restore the iPod or iPhone to factory settings
If none of those measures solve the problem, back up the device by syncing and close the pop-up window and continue.
You’ll then see a list of days and blocks of available time for a reservation. You’ll see the current day and the next three by default, though you can make an appointment beyond that timeframe by clicking the arrow at the right side of the window.
When you click the block of time on the day you want, it will expand to show all available appointments (spaced 10 minutes apart). Select the one you want and click Next.
Provide your contact information or login with your Apple ID (which is the same as your iTunes account login). Providing the Apple ID will allow Apple to maintain a history of your tech support needs and products. Click Next to confirm the reservation.
