Third Generation iPod Shuffle – The third-generation iPod Shuffle refines the design of the iPod Shuffle, making the device small, adding new features such as VoiceOver, increasing capacity, and returning the device to a form factor similar to the first-generation Shuffle.
The third-generation Shuffle is a tiny, vertically oriented rectangle. At 1.8 inches tall, 0.7 inches wide and 0.3 inches thick, it’s smaller than a AA battery and weighs just 0.38 ounces.
In keeping with earlier models, this one does not have a screen. Unlike earlier models, though, the third-generation iPod Shuffle also lacks buttons on its face. Instead, the device is controlled by a remote control on the included earphones. Single, double, or triple clicks cause various actions such as fast forward. Third-party headphones can be used with the Shuffle with the additional purchase of a remote-control adapter.
The third-generation iPod Shuffle doubles the model’s capacity to 4GB, or enough for about 1,000 songs.
Its new VoiceOver feature allows the iPod to read menu items to the user through the headphones in languages including English, French, German, Greek, Czech, Dutch, Italian, Japanese, Mandarin Chinese, Polish, Portuguese, Spanish, Swedish, and Turkish.
The third-generation Shuffle requires iTunes 8.1.
