3rd Generation iPod touch - The 3rd Generation iPod touch is fairly similar to its predecessor, but distinguishes itself due to its increased capacity and faster processor. It also adds Voice Control and VoiceOver support.
As always, the touch is called an iPhone without the phone features by some. The two devices share the same basic design, include large touchscreens, offer Wi-Fi Internet connectivity, and iPod features including music and video playback, wireless music purchases from the iTunes Store, and CoverFlow browsing. In fact, a key addition in the third-generation model is the same processor as used in the iPhone 3GS, giving the device more processing power and allowing it to display more complex graphics using OpenGL.
Like its predecessor, this model includes an accelerometer that senses how the user is holding or moving the device and allows content on the screen to respond accordingly. Like previous iPod touch models, this one also lacks the digital camera and A-GPS features available on the iPhone.
Introduction
The 3rd generation iPod touch was met with a somewhat tepid response as its initial introduction thanks to its only slight improvements over the previous model. Based on rumors, many had expected that this model would incorporate a digital camera, but that feature wasn't introduced until the 4th generation model. Despite that initial disappointment in some corners, the 3rd generation iPod touch continued the line's sales success.
