UPDATE 4/27/11: The white iPhone 4 release date is officially April 28, 2011.
The white iPhone 4 isn't the first iPhone to come in both black and white models. The iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3G both offered white models, too. Even those models weren't trouble free, though, as the white iPhone was reportedly more susceptible to cracks on its back than its black sibling.
White iPhone 4 Delays
Steve Jobs originally announced that the white iPhone would begin shipping at the end of July 2010. That date passed, and was then replaced with a possible spring 2011 release date.
Apple hasn't definitively stated the cause of the delay, though rumors have included:
- An inability to manufacture enough glass panels for screens
- Too much light entering the case and interfering with the camera
- Problems with the paint causing defective units
White iPhone 4 Release Date
As of this writing, Apple hasn't provided a specific release date for the white iPhone 4. The company has said it would ship in spring 2011, which technically starts in late March, but has yet to provide more details. So, for people waiting for the white iPhone 4, it seems patience is the watchword.
