How To Assign iPhone Ringtones to Contacts

By , About.com Guide

The iPhone allows you to assign specific ringtones to be played when people from your contacts list call you. With this feature, you can play a love song when your significant other calls or “Take this Job and Shove It” whenever the boss calls you at home.

Assigning iPhone ringtones to specific contacts is easy. Here’s how you do it.

Difficulty: Easy
Time Required: 1-3 Minutes

Here's How:

  1. From the iPhone home screen, tap the Phone icon.
  2. In the Phone application, tap the contacts icon in the bottom center.
  3. From your contacts list, select the person who you want to assign a ringtone to.
  4. When that person’s contact information appears, tap the Edit button in the top right corner.
  5. When the contact information is editable, you will see an item below their phone number that reads “Assign Ringtone.” Tap that.
  6. When you do, the list of iPhone ringtones available to you will be displayed. Select the one you want.
  7. When you have selected the ringtone, tap the Info icon in the top left. This will return you to the person’s contact information.
  8. Tap the Done icon in the top right and you will have succeeded in assigning a new ringtone to that person.
