The iPod Gear Pouch by Waterfield Designs is not an iPod case in the traditional sense, but is instead a bag designed to house an iPod already in a case. The pouch is intended for easily storing and organizing your iPod and its accessories and making storage and travel with them easy. And though the pouch succeeds in doing that, I question how useful it is.
The pouches come in two sizes, large and small. The small case is designed to carry an iPod, earbuds, power supply or armband, and a docking cable. The large case handles all that and adds room for additional items like another iPod or a car adapter.
The bags are stylish, extremely durable, and made from a tough mesh on the outside and a soft plush material inside. They come in a two-tone design that matches black with blue, green, grey, red, or yellow.
The iPod Gear Pouch certainly does well at what it sets out to do. The reason I haven't given it 5 stars, though, is because I'm not sure how useful what it does is. This is, essentially, a travel bag for an iPod. But when you're traveling, don't you usually use your iPod, not store it in a bag or check it in your luggage? And is the potential tangling of cables so bothersome as require a purchase besides a twist tie?
I'm not trying to put the iPod Gear Pouch down. As I said, it's appealing, very well made, and obviously accomplishes its goal. And there is, no doubt, some value in preventing the loss of iPod items by being able to organize them in one place at home.
The pouch becomes much more useful when viewed as a bag for storing and traveling with all kinds of electronic gadgets - digital cameras, iPods, PDAs. If you have all these items and travel with them, the pouch is a great idea and will, no doubt, be a huge help. As an iPod-only solution, I'm just not sure how useful it is.
If you've got a lot of gadgets that you travel with and all of them need cables, power adapters and accessories, the Waterfield Designs iPod Gear Pouch is a terrific option that you should investigate.
