This version of iTunes was introduced to coincide with the release of new iPod models and the rollout of new features for the original iPhone and iPod touch. This version was released on the same day as the iPod touch and redesigned iPod nano, and brought custom ringtones and over-the-air music downloads to the iPhone.

- Added ringtone creation tool for iPhone built into iTunes (that feature has since been removed)
- Added the iTunes WiFi Music Store for iPhone and iPod touch
- Added support for a series of new iPod models introduced the same day: the first-generation iPod touch, third-generation iPod nano, iPod Classic and the 2nd generation iPod Shuffle in new colors
- Updated iTunes interface to reflect new iPod Shuffle colors
- Closed Captioning support to videos
- The ability to assign star ratings to albums, though the album rating can be overridden for individual songs
- Video playback through iTunes in a larger window
- Sync address book entries created on the iPhone to specific groups
- Various user interface improvements
- Removed support for Windows 2000
