iAd - The in-app advertising system Apple offers to developers of iOS apps running on the iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. The iAd system allows developers to include advertising in their apps to earn more money or subsidize free apps. The ads can offer sophisticated interactivity and animation, as well as more traditional display banner ads.
Apple offers a web-based tool called iAd Producer that allows advertisers to develop iAd content using HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript.
iAd Revenue Split
Apple uses its internal sales force to find advertisers and sell them ad packages. As a result, individual app developers don't have to be involved in selling ads. Apple serves iAds from its servers and splits ad revenue 60/40 in favor of the app developer.
iAd Gallery
Apple offers a free app, called iAd Gallery (Download at iTunes), that showcases some of the best and most innovative ads created for iAd.
iAd History
iAd debuted along with iPhone OS 4.0 in June 2010.
