How to Find iPhone Ringtone at the iTunes Store

By , About.com Guide

You can't buy ringtones directly from the iTunes Store. Instead, you first must buy the song you want the ringtone from and then use iTunes’ built-in ringtones editor to create and buy the new ringtone.

At the launch of the iTunes ringtone service, not all songs are eligible to be converted to ringtones. So, how do you know, before you buy a song, whether it can be made into a ringtone? Here's how.

Difficulty: Easy
Time Required: 1-5 minutes

Here's How:

  1. Go to the iTunes Store.
  2. Search for whatever artist, album, or song you’re looking for in the way you normally would.
  3. When you are looking at a list of songs, you can reveal the ringtones column in one of two ways. You can choose "View Options" from the "View" menu and check the ringtones box or you can right-click the bar in the iTunes Store that reads "Name," "Time," "Artist," etc. and click on the Ringtones option.
  4. Either way, a new column will be added, with a bell icon. This is the ringtone column. If there is a bell icon in the column, that means the song can be made into a ringtone. If there’s no icon, you’ll need to wait until Apple further updates the music store.
