One of the fun things about the iPhone (and iPod touch) is that we can customize the look of parts of it to make the device our own. One area you can customize is your iPhone wallpaper.
As I’ve noted elsewhere, iPhone wallpaper means different things depending on whether you’ve got an iOS 4 phone, jailbroken iPhone or not. For the purposes of this article, I’ll be referring only to standard, non-jailbroken iPhones.
In this case, your iPhone wallpaper is the image you see when you wake your iPhone up from sleep by clicking the lock or home button to unlock it.
Here's How:
- To change your iPhone lock screen wallpaper, start by making sure you’ve got the image you want to use on your iPhone. You can get the image onto your phone by taking a picture with the built-in camera or by adding photos to iPhone from your desktop.
- Once the images are on your phone, go to your home screen (unless you’ve re-arranged it) and tap on the Settings icon.
- In Settings, tap Wallpaper.
- In Wallpaper, you’ll see the list of the groups of photos your iPhone contains. This includes Wallpaper (built-in images provided by Apple on all iPhones), Camera Roll (pictures taken with your built-in camera), or the names of folders you’ve synced to the phone. Tap the collection of photos you’re interested in.
Tap the photo you want to make your wallpaper. You can move the photo or scale it by zooming in on it, to modify how the image will appear when it’s your wallpaper. When you’ve got the photo how you want it, tap “Set” (or “Cancel” if you change your mind).
NOTE: iOS 4 adds a new featured. Instead of just changing the lock screen image, you can now also add the image as true wallpaper that sits behind your apps on your iPhone's homescreen. When you click the "Set" button in iOS 4, you'll be given the option set the image for the lock screen, home screen wallpaper, or both.
- This image is now your iPhone wallpaper. Lock your phone with the lock button and then press a button to wake it up and you’ll see the new wallpaper.
