One of the best things about the iPhone 3G is how much better it feels in your hand than its predecessor. Where the original iPhone felt thick and blocky, the iPhone 3G feels sleek and designed to fit your hand.
Since this difference is one of the most satisfying physical aspects of the iPhone 3G, you don’t want to sacrifice it when putting your phone in a protective case. Unfortunately, some iPhone 3G cases add bulk to the device and the phone loses its sleekness.
Happily, that’s not the case with the iLuv Silicone Case for iPhone 3G. This case - a thin, rubbery silicone sheath that slips easily around the phone – protects the phone, while also retaining its best physical characteristics. And while it’s not perfect, it’s very good.
The case is made from stretchy silicone that allows you to easily get the iPhone 3G into and out of it. The silicone is also slightly tacky, making your grip on the phone surer than with a slick plastic case or without a case at all. The case leaves openings for the camera, headphone jack, and dock connector, and though it covers the volume and home buttons, they can still be used because the case is so thin. As usual with iPhone cases, the screen is uncovered.
But, in a particularly nice touch, included with the case is an overlay screen protector to protect the screen from scratches (something that’s even more important with the iPhone 3G, since its screen picks up so much skin oil).
The only serious downside to the Silicone Case for iPhone 3G is that its tackiness doesn’t only make it easier to hold, it also attracts lint and sometimes makes it hard to slip in or out of a pocket. I found that with this case my phone collected a lot of lint and dust around the edges of the case while in my pocket or bag. While this is annoying (and maybe a little gross), it’s certainly not a deal breaker.
All in all, the iLuv Silicone Case for iPhone 3G is a solid case that will protect your phone from scratches and offer you a great value at the same time.
