The Mixamajig app (US$0.99) is guaranteed to entertain kids -- not to mention adults -- with its unique mix-and-match fun. It has a cute premise that is just entertaining, which is just what you want from an iPhone game.

Make your own "Kooks"
The goal of Mixamajig is to create characters -- called Kooks -- by mixing and matching 200 different body parts. For example, you can add an alien head to a hula dancer’s body and finish it off with a wooden pirate leg. And of course, all these parts come with fun sound effects. Once you’ve created the Kook you like, you can change the background to a forest, beach, underwater scene, or one of many other settings. You can also add your own background by taking a picture with your iPhone’s camera or choosing a scene from your camera roll.
Using Mixamajig, you can also upload your own face to a Kook’s body. Uploading a picture is easy, and the resize tool ensures your face fits perfectly on the body. I also love that you can create your own audio recording to accompany your new Kook. Mixamajig integrates with Facebook, Twitter, and email for sharing Kooks. When you share Kooks, the app unlocks additional characters for you to play with.
My only complaint is that once you save your Kooks, you have to go to the iPhone’s camera roll to see them. It would be nice to access all of your saved Kooks from within the Mixamajig app.
The Bottom Line
Mixamajig is a fun app for adults and kids alike. Although I would like to access my saved Kooks from within the app, that’s only a small complaint. I made my husband into a Kook, and when I went to show him, he took over my iPhone and started playing with the app for a good twenty minutes. High praise indeed! Overall rating: 4.5 stars out of 5.
