Throw away your old guidebooks, because the Walt Disney World Guide Notescast ($3.99) contains nearly everything you need for your next trip. With over 300 pages of information, numerous photos, and plenty of helpful resources -- all accessible without an Internet connection -- the Disney World Notescast iPhone app is a must for your visit to the Disney theme parks.

More than 20 categories of information

When you first launch the Walt Disney World Notescast app, you’ll be greeted with a rather large and extensive menu. The app is broken down into more than 20 categories, and it covers everything from dining at Disney World to getting around the park with a disability. You can find information on annual events, the history of Disney World, and a phone directory for reservations, hotels, tickets, and shuttles.

One of my favorite parts of the app is the glossary of attractions for the Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Animal Kingdom, and Hollywood Studios. You’ll see a picture and brief description for each ride and attraction, which is great for planning purposes since you can tell right away if it’s something you want to visit. The dining information is also pretty comprehensive. The Disney World Notescast app doesn’t include full menus, but it does have a list of dining options, price ranges, and several menu options.

You don’t need an Internet connection to the use the app, which makes it even more useful for using in the park. It would be nice if Disney World Notescast included maps, but it’s still an excellent resource.

Since you can use Walt Disney World Guide Notescast without an Internet connection, the app is pretty large -- more than 60 MB. That’s not going to take up too much space on your iPhone, but it is large for an app and you’ll want to download it when you have a WiFi connection (it still takes several minutes).

The Bottom Line

The Walt Disney World Notescast app is more expensive than many apps, but it does contain a ton of information that will come in handy on your next trip. You can use it for planning purposes -- to determine which attractions to visit or parades to see, for example -- or you can use it while in the park to identify dining options or find a quick phone number. It’s definitely a good app to have on your iPhone or iPod touch the next time you go to Disney World. Overall rating: 4 stars out of 5.
