GPS makes this app a useful planning tool
The Disney World Wait Times app gives you a good sense for how long the lines will be at the Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Hollywood Studios, and the Animal Kingdom. At the top of the homepage, you can tap ‘Near Me’ to find nearby rides. This feature uses the iPhone’s built-in GPS to find the rides nearest to your location, so you can prioritize where to go first based on wait times. For example, Splash Mountain is the closest ride, but it has a wait of almost 40 minutes. The wait at Big Thunder Mountain, on the other hand, is only 15 minutes, so it makes sense to go do that ride first.
Under each theme park, you can browse wait times for rides in Adventureland, Fantasyland, Tomorrowland, etc. Each ride has a large, easy-to-read icon that lists the wait time; it will also tell you if a ride is closed for that day. Tap on the ride’s name and you can report your own wait time to help ensure accuracy for other visitors. You can also view a list of recently reported times. The Disney World Wait Times app gets a good amount of use, as evidenced by these reported times. The Dumbo ride, for example, had five wait times reported between 9 a.m. and noon on one Sunday.
The Bottom Line
Disney World Wait Times is an easy-to-use iPhone app that makes it a breeze to check the latest wait times for all your favorite rides. The GPS-enabled “Near Me” feature is great for prioritizing your day, and the wait times are updated frequently based on the newest reported information. The app contains unobtrusive ads along the bottom of the screen, but you can update to the paid version ($0.99) if that bothers you. Overall rating: 4.5 stars out of 5.
