The Bottom Line

Acme Made's Slick Case certainly lives up to its name. Not only does it offer terrific, folio-type styling, it has two places to store the iPad, and serves both as a travel case and a case for when you use the iPad. Combine that with a US$39.99 list price - a great price compared to other cases with fewer features - and you've got a real winner.

Guide Review - Acme Made Slick Case iPad Case Review

Acme Made's Slick Case for iPad is perhaps the best iPad case I've seen to date (July 2010). It looks great and sports a great price, but most importantly, it doubles as both a travel case and a case for when you're using the iPad. Pretty slick indeed. If not for two minor problems, I'd be giving it five stars. As it is, if I could give it 4.75 stars, I would.

The neoprene case sports the classy styling of a portfolio, making it an immediately appealing case. It gets even more appealing when you open it up. There, you find a pocket to slide the iPad into during travel, complete with a reinforced screen protector.

On the other side of the interior are four elastic straps that can be used to secure the iPad when it's in use. And, because the case isn't very thick, you can fold the other side behind the case when in use and it's still light and easy to grip.

When using the straps to secure the iPad, the pocket can store things like cables or headphones. Acme Made says (and shows) power adapters stored there, too, but in my testing, an adapter is too thick. I could barely zip the case shut with one inside, making me worried about ripping the zipper or case.

The only real downsides to the case are minor indeed. First, if you hold the case zipper down and then try to open it by running the zipper up the side of the iPad, the inside of the zipper bumps against the volume button. Not major, but a little annoying and it could ding the volume button over time.

Secondly, it's a little hard to reach the screen rotation lock because an elastic band covers it. All of the other ports are easily accessed, though.

Those drawbacks are minor, though, and don't detract much the case.

Given its versatility - this is the first case I've seen that offers two different kinds of protection for the iPad, its terrific styling, and a very appealing price, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Acme Made Slick Case to any iPad owner.
