5 High-End iPod Gifts Over $1,000

By , About.com Guide

Sometimes giving a nice old iPod as a holiday gift just doesn't quite say what you want it to say. Sometimes, you may want an iPod, but you want also want to make a statement with diamonds, gold, or other precious items. Sometimes you just want to make that really big splash. Well, if you've got $1,000 or more to spend on iPod gifts this holiday season, here are some things to add to your shopping list (and if you need to add someone, rather than something, my email address is on the site).

1. Gold iPod

Cost: US$19,000
Materials: 18-carat gold
A German company called Xexoo can hook you up here. Great if you're a musician with multiple gold records to your name. Why leave the gold on your wall? Remind yourself of your success wherever your iPod goes. Xexoo actually offers the full line of iPods in gold and jewels. Go nuts!

2. Gold + Diamond iPod Shuffle

Cost: US$20,000
Materials: 430 diamonds, 18-carat gold
A Norwegian company called Heyerdal a.s. offers this little gem. I can't read Norwegian, so I’m not 100% clear on the details, but it sure it is a pretty Shuffle.

3. Gold + Diamond iPhone

Cost: US$41,255
Materials: 420 diamonds (5.65 carats), 18-carat gold, sapphires
And some people said US$599 was too expensive! This iPhone is certainly going to wow people at parties. Two-years of AT&T service not included, sadly. A U.K. company, Amosu, offers this beauty, as well as a gold iPhone and other iPods and cell phones all decked out.

4. iPhone with fully paid two-year contract

Cost: US$1,838.76
So, this isn’t quite as sweet as an iPhone made of gold and all, but it might actually be within more people’s budgets. An iPhone is a great gift, but the recipient still has to pay for AT&T’s two years of service. Why not make it an even better gift and pay the service fees for them? The tally: US$399 for the phone, plus $14,39.75 (the cheapest iPhone plan - $59.99 for two years).

5. $4,000 iPod speakers

Cost: US$3,999.95
These speakers, from fancy-gadget catalog retailer Hammacher Schlemmer claim to be “the first tube-based iPod speaker system, producing a luxurious warmth and clarity prized by audiophiles and previously difficult to reproduce outside of custom-built amplifiers of a handful of live musicians.” And – believe it or not – they’re sold out. Contact Hammacher directly for availability details.
