With the iPhone being so ubiquitous, so popular with seemingly so many people, you may be curious: How many iPhones have been sold worldwide, all time?
The totals listed below include all iPhone models (starting with the original up through the iPhone 6 series) and are based on Apple's announcements. As a result, the numbers are approximate. I'll update this figure whenever Apple reveals new numbers.
Total iPhones Sold Worldwide
March 2015: 700 million
June 2014: 500 million
Nov. 2013: 421 million
March 2011: 108 million
January 2011: 90 million
April 2010: 50 million
January 2010: 42.4 million
January 2009: 17.3 million
January 2008: 3.7 million
In his introduction of the original iPhone, Steve Jobs said that Apple's goal for the first year of the iPhone was to capture 1% of the worldwide cell phone market.
The company achieved that goal and now stands with somewhere between 20% and 40% of the market, depending on which country you're looking at. Its share of the high-end, high-profit smartphone market is huge, though, with Apple earning between 60% and 70% of the worldwide profit on smartphones in 2013.
