Comparing iPhone 4 Camera vs. 4th Gen. iPod touch Camera

By

The iPhone 4 and 4th gen. iPod touch both sport two cameras, one on the back, one user-facing. Despite these similarities, the cameras are very different.

The technical differences between the cameras on the two devices are reasonably easy to understand:

iPhone 4

  • Back camera: 5 megapixels, records 720p HD video, camera flash
  • User-facing camera: 640 x 480, video at 30 frames/second

4th Gen iPod Touch

  • Back camera: 960 x 720, records 720p HD
  • User-facing camera: 640 x 480, video at 30 frames/second

What's less easy to understand is how these differences in specs translate to differences in image quality. This image gallery provides some sample images from both devices to help you assess this. Photos were taken using both cameras on both devices, as well as using HDR photos on the iPhone 4.
