It’s always nice to get value for your money — that’s why people go in for buy two, get one free sales, even if they only needed one in the first place. Case Logic seems to be subscribing to the give ‘em value theory with its Silicone Cases 2 pack for the 3rd generation iPod nano since, as the name suggests, each package offers two nano cases sporting different styles for one price.
The Silicone Cases for 3rd generation nano are tight-fitting wraps made of silicone that surround the nano, cover the clickwheel, and allow easy access to the hold switch, dock connector, and headphone jack. They’re slim and light — adding just an ounce to the weight of your iPod. That’s a big benefit for such a small iPod — you wouldn’t want the case added a lot of weight or reducing the maneuverability of the device.
The cover for the clickwheel is sensitive and responsive. Covering the clickwheel while maintaining its smooth functionality is one of my basic requirements for any modern iPod case and the Silicone Cases pull it off terrifically. You’ll hardly be able to tell a difference between using the clickwheel with and without the case.
Unfortunately, my other basic requirement for modern iPod cases is that they also protect the iPod’s screen from scratches and dings and the Silicone Cases don’t. Though the screen is set back a bit from the edge of the case, there’s no protection for the screen, leaving it open to damage. At this point, that’s a major omission for an iPod case in my book.
Overall, the Case Logic Silicone Cases perform well. They’re protected my 3rd generation iPod nano in pockets and bags and the car. One thing I’ve noticed, though — and contrary to Case Logic’s claims — is that the cases tend to attract lint and dust. The company claims that a special coating on the cases prevents this, but that hasn’t really been my experience.
Because the cases are generally good products, it’s a shame that there’s no screen protection available. If there were, the Case Logic Silicone Cases for 3rd generation iPod nano would get higher marks from me.
