Though iPod cases that lack clickwheel protection are still fairly common (though I think there’s no excuse for not protecting it), it’s rare to come across a case that doesn’t protect the iPod’s screen anymore. In the Case Logic iPod Classic Silicone Case we have both – a case that protects neither the clickwheel nor the screen. And though it’s a good value and provide decent protection otherwise, I can’t recommend a case that offers such scant protection.
The Silicone Case for iPod Classic is just what it sounds like, a small, spongy silicone case that the iPod Classic slips into for protection. The cases come in packs of two – one plain, opaque version and the other a slightly more designed variety that carries a pattern reminiscent of vines.
The cases allow access to the important parts of the iPod – the dock connector, hold switch, and headphone jack. They also offer unfettered access to the clickwheel and screen, and that’s the problem. Why bother with a case if the two most important parts of the iPod aren’t protected? After all, a scratch to the back of the device isn’t nearly as important as a scratch right on the screen.
The case will protect the body of the iPod, no doubt, and might even protect some shock absorption if dropped. But between the case’s somewhat bland styling and the failure to protect the most critical parts of the iPod, it’s hard to recommend the Case Logic iPod Classic Silicone Case.
