The Mophie Radura case for the third-generation iPod nano is similar from a lot of other hard cases on the market, with one key difference: an opportunity for customization on the back of the case. That’s not enough to truly set the case apart from the pack, though.
The Radura offers what’s become standard on iPod nano cases these days: a hard polycarbonate case that protects the iPod, covers the screen, and allows access to the dock connector and hold button. Unfortunately, the case also offers too much access to the Clickwheel, failing to protect it – always a demerit in my book.
The case itself is sleek and thin, not too heavy, not too flimsy. It comes only in clear. And it’s the clear looks that provides both the customization and a downfall.
On the back of the Radura, there’s a removable silicone insert that provides a bit of design flair to the case. Each Radura comes with three colored inserts: black, green, and pink. While this is a nice enough idea – and follows through on Mophie’s habit of making fun, laid-back products for the iPod and iPhone – it seems a little slight and unnecessary. If it was a more substantial opportunity for design or customization, I might like it more.
The case being clear also reveals a lot of the dirt and dust and lint that can get into an iPod case, leaving the iPod inside looking dirty and unpleasant a lot of the time, which is also a demerit.
Overall, this is a good case for a good price, but a somewhat frivolous customization touch and the prominent display of dirt keep me from being more enthusiastic about it.
