Though you get more bang for your buck when you buy the Incase Slip Covers iPod nano case — two cases come in each package — the experience of using the cases is frustrating and doesn’t offset the value.
The Slip Cover case is a standard iPod nano case: a small, hard leather sleeve that the nano slides into. The case protects the screen and clickwheel, exposes the hold button, and has an open bottom that offers complete access to the dock connector and headphone jack. It attaches to things via a belt clip and a loop and clip option.
This clip option poses the case’s first problem. The included carabineer-type clip is flimsy. I accidentally bent the clip upon taking it out of the packaging and it just didn’t work very well afterwards, coming open without warning. I didn’t apply much force to it, so bending the clip so easily was a surprise.
The second, and bigger problem I found with the Slip Cover iPod nano case, was the lack of responsiveness of the clickwheel cover. Much like its sibling, the Neoprene Sleeve for iPod, the Slip Cover case’s clickwheel protector is not sensitive enough and makes controlling the iPod difficult. To make matters worse, this case doesn’t quite fit the nano properly, leaving a little space between the clickwheel cover and the iPod itself. This further reduces the control you’re able to exert over the iPod while in the case, leading to frequent incorrect clicks and frustration.
Though the styling of the Incase Slip Cover case for iPod nano is appealing and the protection it offers solid, the frustrating problems with the clickwheel cover make it hard for me to recommend this case.
