If you’ve got a burning desire to take your entire music library with you underwater – whether that’s in the pool, the ocean, or just the bathtub – the H20 Audio waterproof iPod case for the iPod video is for you. This watertight case, when combined with underwater headphones, lets you use your iPod safely and with good sound quality in water up to 10 feet deep.

The case, like its sibling, the H20 Audio for iPod nano, is a clear, hard-plastic case that houses the iPod and protects it from water. The waterproofing arrives thanks to a rubber "T-seal" at the case’s edges that keeps water and other kinds of moisture out. Waterproof controls and the SealTight headphone jack complete the protective casing.

To get the most out of the case, you’ll need to use H20 Audio’s underwater headphones, which are, frustratingly, sold separately. When you do use them, though, you’ll find that listening to music underwater sounds great (listening on land isn’t as nice, though, so only use these beneath the waves). When listening in water, use the included earplug adapters, which prevent water getting between the headphones and your ears.

The H20 Audio waterproof iPod case comes with a neoprene armband to secure it to your arm while swimming. You can also just let the case float, tethered to you via the stretchy headphone cord. Serious swimmers may find that the case causes too much drag, but recreational users should be happy with the trade-off.

The H20 Audio case for iPod video does what it sets out to do and does it well. With it, you’ll be able to safely take your iPod in the water, listen to music, and avoid damage. The price for this is a bit high, though, and when combined with the headphones, the combination will set you back over US$130. Still, if you’ve got the money and the desire for a waterproof iPod case, the H20 Audio will be great for you.

I have been using the h20 apple Ishuffle3 for several years. I have had ongoing problems with the balance on the speakers and until recently I was pleased with the H20 Customer service to respond to the problem. At first, each earphone had a good balance. Within a short time, one side or the other would give out, either temporarily or permanently. I have to say that though all the times I have remained patient with the replacements, H20 always responded in an effort to make things right. I continued to recommend H20 to all of my swimming buddies, strongly suggested they buy one and most did. That was until just recently. I had been sent a replacement that worked very well for about 10 months. It was wonderful. Then one side started going in and out like before. I contacted H20 and a representative said he would send out a replacement set for no cost. I told him I would hang in a little longer in hopes that maybe it was a temporary glitch. And it was. It worked again for about 2 months. Then as before, the sound faded to nothing. I contacted H20 and told them that I thought i had better send them the unit because something wasn't working with the left ear bud. Customer service refused on the grounds that there was only a one year warranty and I was asking in the two week period after my warranty expired. I explained I had been in regular contact with the service department about the situation and felt that since I had contacted them before the end of warranty, the unit should be replaced. The customer service representative promised to call back the next day. Didn't. I called again and she said again thata she wouldn't replace the unit. She suggested that I purchase a new unit. She offered a 10% discount. I asked to speak to the President who I had talked with before. I couldn't remember his name. Very nice, very helpful. She refused to give me his name and wouldn't transfer me to his extension. That is where we left it as of yesterday (8/17/2011). I think the unit is excellent but I think H20 continues to have problems with the balance of sound of the ear buds. Many of the friends who I work out with, who have all purchased on my recommendation, have had the same problem. Until now I have told them to contact H20, that I felt they stand behind their product. I can no longer say that. I think I was patient with the company, and they were helpful to me. Either their customer policies have changed or they have put a person in charge of customer relations who hasn't been well versed in how to keep customers. If you are willing to take the chance with the ear buds, I would recommend the unit. I will have to search for an alternative. I would feel pretty stupid just ordering another because some telephone representative was roadblocking my try at resolving the situation.
