1. Weber's On the Grill
Weber's On the Grill ($4.99) is a must-have app for anyone who loves to grill. The Weber app is one part recipes, one part grilling instruction. It has 250 grilling recipes -- including everything from fish to brisket -- along with another 50 recipes for marinades, rubs, and sauces. Each recipe is illustrated with a picture, which will get your mouth watering for sure. There is a ton of instructional content, including a time/temperature calculator and how-to articles. There's also an integrated grill timer so you don't need to keep your eye on the clock. It is pricey for a recipe app, but BBQ aficionados will love it.
2. Tyler Florence Fast
It's not specifically a grilling app, but Tyler Florence Fast ($4.99) has a good selection of recipes for your next BBQ. New York strip steaks with grilled fennel salad, anyone? More than 500 recipes are included, and you'll find everything from cocktails to salads and desserts. Like Weber's On the Grill app, Tyler Florence Fast has a cooking timer. This one has a neat twist, though, as you can program it to play any song from your iPod playlist. I do wish that the app included more pictures for the recipes, but that's easy to forgive when you're enjoying grilled pork tenderloin with chile coconut sauce and grilled peaches for dessert.
3. Epicurious Recipes
The Epicurious app (Free), which includes recipes from Bon Appétit and Gourmet magazines, has a dedicated grilling category with more than 1,000 recipes. The recipes look and sound delicious, and most have a picture so you can see how the dish will turn out. You can even read user reviews so you don't waste time on a dud. You can email any recipe or add it to your favorites, and the app includes a shopping list as well. It is time-consuming to swipe through the recipes, which are displayed in a slideshow format, but you'll find plenty of inspiration for your next BBQ.
4. Whole Foods Market Recipes
The Whole Foods Market Recipes app (Free) is a great choice for any foodie, regardless of how you like to cook. It has a solid collection of recipes and one of the best interfaces of any cooking app. For those who like to grill, the Whole Foods Market makes it easy to find ideas. The search tab features helpful categories like "entertaining," "family friendly," and "portable picnic" -- all of which include recipes that would be perfect a BBQ. The app also has a helpful section where you can browse recipes based on the ingredients you already have on hand.
