8 Free iPhone Ringtones Apps

From

We've already covered the best iPhone ringtone apps, but what if you don't want to spend any money? With these free iPhone ringtone apps, you can create ringtones from your existing iPod library. The biggest downside? Most of these apps contain ads and some of them have difficult-to-use interfaces. Keep in mind that while these apps are free, you'll still need to pay to download songs from iTunes.

1. Ringtone Maker by Mobile17

Ringtone Maker is another free app that includes unlimited custom ringtones. Unlike some of the apps discussed above, you can create ringtones of up to 40 seconds (without paying extra). For many songs, the app includes popular ringtone start times to streamline the editing process. Even better, you can use this free app on any iPhone running iOS 4.0 or later.

2. Ringtone Designer

Ringtone Designer works much like the apps discussed above, although the ringtones have a maximum length of 30 seconds. This free app is easy to use -- simply select a song from your iPod library and select the section you want to use. You can create unlimited ringtones and add custom sounds for each person on your contact list. By upgrading to the paid app, you can create longer ringtones and remove advertisements.

3. Myxer Ringtones

In addition to creating ringtones from your iPod library, the free Myxer Ringtones app has a library of ringtones to choose from. That is a convenient feature, especially if you are sick of your existing music. For popular songs, you can also see the sections other users have picked, which makes the editing process a little bit faster.

4. Ringtone Converter

Ringtone Converter is a great choice for creating unlimited free ringtones from your existing iPod music library. Like most free ringtone apps, Ringtone Converter creates ringtones up to 30 seconds long, and the app itself is very easy to use. The interface isn't as sleek as some of its competitors, but Ringtone Converter is still a solid choice.

5. Ringtone DJ

Ringtone DJ gives you a DJ mixing board as your main interface for creating ringtones. Move a selection window around a song's waveform to select a snippet and then preview it. Once you've got your clip, though, in-app purchases allow you to add effects like record scratches, voice recordings, pitch changes, and more. The ability to add effects is pretty neat, though Ringtone DJ's interface can be a little tricky to navigate.

6. RingtonesX

If you want musical ringtones but don't have many downloaded songs to work with, RingtonesX is worth a look. Instead of creating ringtones from your existing music, RingtonesX has thousands of popular "hits" to choose from. The only problem? All the songs are covers and not sung by the original artist. Some sound pretty decent, but other ringtones sound pretty far from the original.

7. Ringtone Maker

The Ringtone Maker app is a free way to make ringtones from your existing music. Each ringtone can be up to 40 seconds long, and you can fade in or out for a more professional-sounding effect. However, you’ll need an iPhone 3GS or later (and iOS 4 or later) to take advantage of this free ringtone app.

8. Create Ringtones

Create Ringtones also features custom ringtones, but it adds some nifty features. You can create a unique recording using your iPhone’s microphone or email your ringtones to friends. On the downside, you’ll have to pay $0.99 to make ringtones up to 40 seconds long. As with the Ringtone Maker free app, you’ll need an iPhone 3GS or later to use Create Ringtones (the fourth-generation iPod touch is also supported).
