Do You Have to Use iTunes With an iPod?

By , About.com Guide

Question: Do You Have to Use iTunes With an iPod?
Do you have to use iTunes with an iPod?
Answer:

No. Most people use iTunes to manage the music, movies, and other content on their iPods because it’s the easiest thing to do. After all, part of setting up your iPod is to install iTunes and then configure your iPod using it. Plus, Apple puts the iPod and iTunes together as part of an ecosystem, so most people are just going to stick to that ecosystem.

But, not everyone does, and you don’t have to. There is a whole suite of programs that are iTunes alternatives – they can manage your music, sync it to your iPod, and provide a number of other features as well.

Most of these programs cost money (iTunes is free). Needless to say, they aren’t supported by Apple and they don’t allow you to buy music from the iTunes Store using them.

Still, if you’re frustrated by iTunes, or just curious to see what else is out there, you may want to consider some of these iTunes alternatives.
