If you like musical ringtones, Ringtone Star (US$0.99) should be at the top of your list. Not only does this app allow you to create ringtones from your existing iPod library, but you can also create customized ringtones from music videos.

Support for audio and video files
Like most ringtone apps, Ringtone Star allows you create custom ringtones (up to 40 seconds long) from songs you have downloaded from iTunes. And it does a good job of it -- your downloaded songs are added to the app automatically, so Ringtone Star makes it easy to start creating.
The editing interface is highly sensitive, so I was able to quickly select the correct portion of each song. Ringtone Star adjusts using two sliding scales, and it is much easier to maneuver than most apps I’ve tested.
What really sets Ringtone Star apart, however, is its support for music videos in addition to audio files. I was able to search for a particular song on Google Videos, download it from YouTube, and transform the video into a ringtone in minutes. This is the only ringtone app I’ve tested that has this feature, and I was very impressed by how easy it was to create ringtones from a downloaded video. You can also record your own voice or sounds using the iPhone’s built-in microphone.
Once your ringtone is created, you can email it or just sync your iPhone with iTunes. As with all ringtone apps, you can’t set a new ringtone directly from the app, but we have a handy how-to article that explains the syncing process. All of my ringtones were transferred without any problems.
The Bottom Line
Ringtone Star is one of the best ringtone apps I’ve tested -- if not the best. The editing interface is easy to use, and the inexpensive price tag makes this app a pretty good value. However, what really sets this app apart from the competition is its support for music videos. Overall rating: 5 stars out of 5.
