The Good
- Access to excellent Disney podcasts
- Free
The Bad
- Little content within the app
The WDW Radio app (Free) is one way to listen to Lou Mongello’s popular Disney podcast. The podcast itself is very well done, but the iPhone app could use a little refinement.

Excellent podcast, but little app content
WDW Radio is the brainchild of Lou Mongello, an author who has penned several popular trivia books about Walt Disney World. Mongello also hosts a podcast and has developed audio guides to the park. The WDW Radio app provides access to his frequent podcast as well as other resources for Disney World visitors.
In checking out the app, I was most excited to listen to this podcast I have heard so much about. The hour-long podcast, which is updated every couple of days, covers travel tips, interviews, hotel reviews, dining options, and more. It is professionally produced and includes lots of helpful information -- as evidenced by its perfect 5-star rating in the iTunes store after more than 500 reviews.
The podcasts aren’t housed within the app, which was somewhat of a disappointment. I would prefer to listen to the podcast within the app instead of being redirected to download it at iTunes. I have the same complaint about some of other features. The online store and forums are not optimized for the iPhone, so you’ll have to do lots of pinching and scrolling to read these pages effectively. I also received an error message when trying to load content from the blog.
On the other hand, the social networking component is well done. The app links to Mongello’s Twitter and Facebook feeds, which are optimized for mobile browsers and easy to read.
The Bottom Line
The WDW Radio app is free, so it can’t hurt to download it -- especially if you are already a fan of Lou Mongello’s podcast. The podcast is excellent (and worthy of 5 stars), although you can download it straight from iTunes. Personally, I would like to see the app updated to include more internal features, which would make for faster and more streamlined browsing. Overall rating: 3 stars out of 5.
What You’ll Need
The WDW Radio app works on an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. It requires iPhone OS 3.1.3 or later.
