Get off the couch and begin training to your a 5K with this app. 5K101 takes you from your first steps to a full, 30-minute run in just 8 weeks. With its built in training program, it will tell you when to run--you just have to follow its instructions. Like the other apps on this list, it tracks your routes using the iPhone's built-in GPS features. Great for runners at all levels, though especially beginners.

Gazelle GPS

Gazelle isn't the only running app that tracks your workout stats using your iPhone's built-in GPS--other even appear on this list!--but it does do a great job of being easy to use while you run. That's because the screen is designed for minimal clutter and with large buttons, all of which combine to make the app easy to use and read while you run. And, of course, its workout-tracking features--from tracking your time, distance, lap speed, and more--are pretty handy, too.

GPS Running Watch

GPS Running Watch combines a running watch that tracks your speed and distance with GPS-enabled mapping technology to trace your exact running route. No more guessing at your exact speed or mileage--this app measures and logs your workouts precisely. You can view reports, create a personal profile with your physical stats, and share your workout data with friends and running buddies via social networks.

iMapMyRun

Price: Free
Another app that's an excellent running partner. iMayMyRun tracks your pace, calories burned, route, elevation, and--crucially--your distance, using the iPhone's built-in GPS. It also includes a database of over 26 million running routes to help you find new places to work out. Data stored in the app also syncs with a MapMyRun.com account for tracking and review.

LogYourRun
Developer: LogYourRun LLC
Price: $2.99
Most GPS-aware running apps use the iPhone's GPS to track your run. This is usually great, but it can be tricky if your app has trouble locking on to satellite. LogYourRun gets around this by working both using GPS and as a pedometer, so there's no waiting to start your run. Like the other apps here, it tracks your route and workout stats and integrates with the LogYourRun website. It also comes with hundreds of free training routines that you can use to get into shape.
