Animals for Tots
Developer: AppAnnex LLC
Price: $0.99
What's life for a toddler without learning about barnyard animals? Animals for Tots teaches kids about 20 different animals (including some that go beyond the farm and into the woods), their names, and their noises. The animals also seem to come to life thanks to animations. With a microphone, you can even record your own voice saying the name of the animals so your toddler can hear you speak the words.

BetterLetter
Developer: edenpod
Price: Free
BetterLetter helps kids--and adults--build their vocabularies and see the relationships between different words. In the app, you start with letters and build a word from them. You're not done there, though. Once you've got one word, you try to build another until you build the longest word possible. BetterLetter also lets test your vocab skills by playing head-to-head over the web and comparing your scores with other players' via Game Center and OpenFeint.

The app includes all English letters, numbers 1-10, and recordings of the sounds made by different letters.
