If you know any kids who are fans of the hit Big Nate series of books by Lincoln Peirce, they're going to love this app. It lets them take comics panels and arrange them in the order that they want and fill in the word balloons to tell their own stories. The finished comics can be shared or saved on the iPhone. The app even includes five new comics by Lincoln Peirce.

comiXology is probably the most full-featured digital comics shop available on the iOS. The free app is the storefront through which comics fans can choose from thousands of comics from major publishers like Marvel and DC or smaller indies. The app comes packed with tons of free comics for you to sample and lets you read your purchases across devices and on the web, too.

Disney Comics

If you prefer your comics more all-ages, check out this app that offers comics adventures of Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy, and other classic Disney characters. The app includes both free comics and functions like a store that allows you to buy the Disney comics that pique your interest. It evens features comics of Disney properties that aren't the classic animals, like TRON and Toy Story.

Graphicly

Graphicly's app is similar to comiXology's--it's a free storefront app through which comics fans can buy the stories they love. The store offers titles from major publishers like Marvel and Image, and also features indie companies and up-and-coming talent. Graphicly also lets you read your comics across multiple devices, including in its desktop viewer. This app also features dozens of free comics.

Viz Manga

Price: Free
Viz is the largest English-language publisher of Japanese comics, AKA manga. This app shows you why. It's another digital storefront that offers long, free sample chapters and allows fans to buy full books through the app. From all-ages titles to more mature and complex stories, long-time fans and those looking to find out what manga is all about will find a lot to love in the Viz app.
