- Last week, while I was laid up in bed with the flu, Apple released iTunes 11. The new version of iTunes, free as always (learn how to get it here), is a major overhaul of the interface and features of the software. In my use, it's a mixed bag. The new interface is generally a winner in my book, but some of the features removed from this version were useful and not clearly problematic, so it's hard to understand why they were cut. It seems that Apple agrees and will be bringing some of them back.
- In addition to the new version of the software, last week Apple opened local iTunes Stores in 56 new countries, including India, Turkey, South Africa, and Russia. The Russian launch wasn't without its problems, though (NSFW).
- The Daily, News Corp.'s iPad-only newspaper which was so heavily touted a little while back is being shuttered. Daring Fireball's John Gruber has a good analysis of why it failed.
- Apple has been rumored for a while to be working on a Pandora-style streaming radio service. CNet reports, though, that that service may not be appearing any time soon due to Apple's inability to strike a deal with any major labels.
