UPDATED2: iPhone Activation Problems - Again

Friday July 11, 2008

I've just finished setting up my iPhone 3G - it went very smoothly indeed - and am about to post my guide to doing it for upgraders. However, reports are coming in from far and wide that there are problems activating the new phones, as well as phones upgrading to the iPhone 2.0 firmware (including one from a colleague of mine). On iPhone day last year Apple and AT&T experienced these same troubles, in some cases dragging iPhone activations 2-3 days. You'd think they would have solved this issue in the intervening year. Guess not.

IMPORTANT: Until the activation problems are fixed, do not try to upgrade your first-generation iPhone to iPhone 2.0. It will leave your iPhone unusable until the activation servers are working again.

UPDATE: Here's my set-up guide for upgraders.
