AT&T May Subsidize New iPhone
Thursday May 1, 2008
AT&T is reportedly planning to discount the price of the new iPhone by as much as US$200, according to reports. Carriers subsidizing the cost of handsets is a common practice in the mobile phone world but hasn't happened with the iPhone previously. So far, customers have had to pay full price for the phone. If the plan is enacted, the iPhone could cost as little as $199, virtually guaranteeing big sales. The subsidy would apply to the new iPhone, expected to be announced this summer.
