Coming Thursday: iPhone SDK Announcement
For those of us in Rhode Island (and Ohio, Texas, and Vermont), the biggest event of this week is probably our presidential primaries today. For Apple fans in the rest of the country, though, the week's high-point is likely to be Apple's announcement on Thursday regarding the iPhone SDK.
The SDK, or software development kit, will allow third-party developers to write official programs that users can install on the iPhone - something people have long been clamoring for. Though details are scant right now, iLounge has a long post detailing some of what is expected at the event:
- Programs will be sold through the iTunes Store
- Apple will decide what programs can be sold
- Developers cannot access the dock connector with their software
The lack of dock connector support, if true, is the most upsetting to me, as I'd love to have a collapsible keyboard to take with me when traveling.
Readers, what do you make of these rumors? And what do you hope to hear Steve Jobs announce on Thursday?
