iEphmera: iPhone DVDs, Games, European iTunes Store
Friday January 11, 2008
Here's your latest round-up of smaller notes and news bits about the iPod, iTunes Store, and iPhone.
- As part of the rumored iTunes Store video rental offering, there's a report that some DVDs, starting with those offered by 20th Century Fox, will ship with iPod-compatible versions of the movies that can be copied to your hard for no extra charge.
- The president of game giant EA says that the way Apple is handling gaming on the iPhone is holding back development of the mobile games space. Interesting comments, since it has been widely assumed that EA would be releasing iPhone games soon. Maybe not so soon, eh?
- More from the end of DRM: Napster announced that it's switching its download sales catalog to DRM-free MP3s. It's unclear whether Napster will continue to use DRM on its file-swapping srvice, but adding DRM-free files on the sales side is a nice step.
- Remember those iPods being given away in popsicle boxes in Brazil? Gizmodo has photos of what the packaging looks like.
- To settle an ongoing dispute with the EU, Apple announced that it will be standardizing its iTunes Store pricing across all European stores.
- Reports have it that Warner Bros. is definitely onboard for the iTunes video rental store expected to be announced at Macworld next week.
