Pepsi, Amazon Giving Away 1 Billion MP3s
Saturday December 1, 2007
Remember in 2004, when Apple and Pepsi used the Super Bowl as an opportunity to kick off a promotion in which they gave away 100 million free downloads from iTunes? Well, this year, Pepsi and Amazon plan to do that promotion 10 times better and give away 1 billion free downloads from Amazon's new AmazonMP3 store. In this case, though, apparently you'll need to buy five Pepsis to get the code for a single song, which is weird and counterproductive and hard to use. After all, you're spending $5-$6 for a song that would cost $1 to buy at Amazon. Still, this kind of promotion was a big hit for iTunes - it will be interesting to see how it pans out for Amazon.
