Apple Releases iPhone Software Update 1.1.1
The much-ballyhooed iPhone software update has been released. Sync for your iPhone to get prompted to install the update. This version is supposed to add some major features, perhaps even the iTunes WiFi Music Store. It is also the one that may ruin "unlocked" phones. I'm going to install it now and will update with my experiences.
UPDATE:OK, that went about as smoothly as can be expected. The 153 MB file took about 4-5 minutes to download. The actual update process took about another 5 minutes and required a re-activation (handled automatically by iTunes).
Things Added in This Update:
- the iTunes WiFi Music Store
- A new calculator icon
- Double tapping the Home button now either shortcuts to your phone's favorites or the iPod controls, depending on your settings (there's a new setting to control this in General)
- A TV in/out option in the iPod
NOTE: For all you adventurous types, this worked well for me, but my iPhone has never really been hacked. I tried to add hacked ringtones at one point, but the last software update caused me to have to do a full restore of the software, so I didn’t try it again. I've made no attempts at unlocking my phone. If you've done either recently, things might not so so smoothly for you.
