iPhone Roundup: Tech Support, Anti-Theft, More
Saturday May 19, 2007
As we approach the launch of the iPhone in late June, the news about the device is getting a little sparse. I expect that things are going to get quiet for a little while and then ramp up again as we near the release date. When the release date actually gets announced, I'd wager we'll start hearing a lot more. In the meantime, here are a few snippets of iPhone news that I've collected:
- Apple is hiring iPhone personal trainers to work in their tech support department to help new iPhone users get acclimated. If you live in the Sacramento area, this job could be yours!
- A survey found that 50% of iPod owners would buy an iPhone, while only 20% of the total survey population would do so. Not surprisingly perhaps, and maybe good for Apple if they can upsell customers to a device that's $150-$250 more expensive than the iPods they might otherwise have bought.
- Apple has patented a new anti-theft technology for its products. The technology, which we likely won't see in devices for a little while, would detect theft and raise an alarm based on variables like how quickly the device is moving. Could be a great item t prevent iPod and iPhone theft in the future.

As a recent victim of iJacking I am so angry!!! Apple is iProfiting off of iPhone theft – in a joint venture with the thieves, At&t and the police – the stolen gadgets are listed as “lost” instead of (read my lips) “stolen”, without exception. This makes the sales statistics for iPhones very impressive (pffft and as a footnote the consumers look like morons). The result is a false illusion of double or triple the iBrand’s popularity not to mention the enormous profits reaped off of the misfortunes of their loyal and loving customers. And though apple admits that they have the abillity to track and locate the stolen phones they refuse to do so because of “privacy issues.” Sure, with all the professional iPhone thieves out there – who wants to invade their *privacy? And voila, a new industry is born – overpriced, outsourced iPhone insurance yey. Those apple vultures try to push it on you like … iDunno, like they’re getting commision or something? At&t doesn’t have any shame in jumping on the opportunity to profit from this either, apologetically forcing the iPhone subscriber to renew it’s 2 year contract everytime they purchase a $600 replacement iPhone. They should just issue “At&t forever” promise rings with all their friggin’ commitment issues… And both companies have the nerve to call the poor iJacked victim their “most valued customer”. Awwww…I call bullhsit. People aren’t stupid – just right now apple and At&t have all the leverage. Hey Chris Hansen from Dateline NBC: there are a whole bunch of predators out there, now get your hidden camera ass over there with the quickness – screw them immoral iProfiteering basturds.
* I friggin do!!! Screw them, in fact – once their privacy is fully violated they should have both their hands amputated so that they can diffuse bombs in Iraq…as members of the N.U.B.S. bomb squad.
