Petition to Ask Steve Jobs to Dump DRM

Friday March 9, 2007

Though the furor created by Steve Jobs' open letter on DRM has somewhat died down, the Free Software Foundation's Anti-DRM website DefectivebyDesign.com has posted a petition calling on Steve Jobs to take the next step in his call to drop DRM. The petition asks him to take steps such as removing DRM from indie music on iTunes and removing it from Disney movies sold at iTunes (Jobs is on Disney's board and is its single largest shareholder). As of this writing, the petition had nearly 1700 signatures.

To me, it's interesting that Jobs wrote the anti-DRM letter and has not said much about it since. Does that mean that things are happening behind the scenes or is the idea just being dropped?
